Danger! Electric Poetry from a Live Wire

David Mason  A dynamic and theatrical performance poet high in energy and sometimes volume! David Mason has an uncanny ability to empathise with his audience, and adapt his shows to meet their needs. His performances are a thoroughly inspiring experience.Audiences often participate without being asked to, as at least half of the poems are sung to easily recognisable rhythms, eliciting much frivolity and clapping. Children like to join in vocally too. Some even dance if their teachers let them. Back in the classrooms the party often continues! The shows are for ages 4 -7, 8-12 and 13-16. Optional creative writing and drama workshops offered. David also writes poetry for adults. The shows
1. Earth, Sea and Sky - from the poet of
‘When’ and the ‘The White Book’2. Monsters from Outer Space - from the
poet of ‘Living in Another World’

3. School? What a laugh! - from the poet of
‘Teachers Cauldron’ & ‘The Great Sweetshop Robbery’

Sales of David’s children’s poetry books (six volumes plus a music/poetry CD) number more than 7,000 since the year 2000 - phenomenal for today’s market.

‘David Mason, poet, author and stunning performer visited schools in February. He had students laughing, clapping and thinking. We are very pleased that he will return to introduce the poems and poets at “Making a Splash”, the children’s event at Poetry-next-the-Sea 2006.’ Kevin and Linda Crossley-Holland

Biography
David Mason has been performing “poetry” since the early 1970s as lead singer of one of those bands you never heard of but nonetheless were successful at a local level in Birkenhead, Merseyside. In the 1990s he was to be seen plying his trade of adult poetry performance at various venues in Norfolk and the South before settling down to (mainly) a life on the school circuit in 2000. Since then David has performed to over 20,000 children and adults. Never forgetting his strong Merseyside connection, the content is (a la McGough & Patten) humorous, accessible and ironic.

David Mason has worked as an immunopathologist, a sales training manager and has even owned a restaurant. He began writing in 1993 and his first book was published in 1996.
