Poems by Battersea Technology College, Year 7

My worlds

Two Worlds, Two Friendly Enemies
The mix of my worlds
Results in a variety of things,
Like a boy sleeping next to a python.

It could result in a city
Havocked with a blackout,
Stealing taking place
And people being stabbed.

It makes a lot of noise
The Stealth airplane
When it flies.
It beats the earth like a fridge.

Those are my two worlds,
And however I try
They can’t get along.

By Abraao

I live in a world of kittens playing around
And shining like gold.
I wish I was a cat.

I live in a world of streets
Where people are all busy
And people are
Loud as roaring lions.

I live in two worlds
That I can’t bring together.
How can I bring these worlds together?

By Faduma

I live in a world of pain
I live in a world of love, of good,
Of bad, of normality.
It may be my destiny to be lonely
I am terrified of pain
It is perfect to let it go
There is nothing I can do
Just me and you
How long will I last before I burst?

By Meshawi

I live in a world of spicy cooking,
Sweet smells and exotic food,
Going out shopping into the street.

I live in a world of guns and warfare,
Playing with my friends online,
Shooting the enemy,
Throwing grenades,
Stealing into the grass like a grasshopper,
Blending into the stem of a plant.

By Thomas

One World Split in Half
I live in two worlds
Of my family’s tender care,
And guns and gangsters
Causing hassle everywhere.

I smell my mother’s sweet cooking,
Hear my little brother’s loud cries,
Happiness surrounding me
Where we don’t believe in lies.

But on the seven o’clock news
I hear bad things
That gangs have robbed jewellery shops,
Shooting innocent people,
Taking bracelets and rings.

Why can’t we live happy
In an innocent world,
Where police sirens don’t exist?
Why can’t we live happy
I think to myself,
Why?

My mother comforts me
When I’m feeling poor,
But those who’ve lost their loved ones
Because of the guns
Have no one to comfort them.

By Fatima

I live in a world of belief and reality,
A world of eyes staring me up and down,
Of people calling my name,
Of pain and agony, hate and crying
Loud as a pin drop.

I live in a world of endless chores
And if a pin drops, my aunty roars:
‘Britni, Britni! Come down ‘ere,
Do your work properly,
You have no responsibility I fear.’

The schoolwork’s too hard,
They put too much pressure,
In English we write stories
And in Maths we learn to measure.

By Britni

The World of War
I live in a world of war.
I fight in this world, I fight even more,
I love my world,
But I love the world of peace,
But I love The World of War.

I want to escape
I want to live
I do not want to fight in the war

My world of peace is no more
The world of peace
The world of peace has been destroyed.

By Blair

I listen to loud music
Like loud explosions,
Tornados with whipping leopards.

I live in two worlds:
Of nice sweet smells
Cooking, shouting, playing 24/7,
And on Sunday
Loud church bells

Of children and teenagers
Getting involved in gangs,
Hassling innocent people,
Leaving them with nightmares
Of loud gun bangs.

By Cadeisha

I live in a world of computer games
And shouting
Loud music popping in my head
Of kicking a ball
Then coming back like a raindrop

By Igor

I live in two worlds,
Funland and Family land.
I live in a world of sweets,
Of dogs, Pitbulls shaking people.
I live in a world
Of jungle tigers roaring loud.
I have a world
With enemies hating me.
I have a world of football,
Being a professional football player.

By Glodi

I live in two worlds of
Family and warmth
And loud noises.
I live in a world of
Killers and cold
And the sound of gunshots.

I live in a world of
Sweets and candy.
I live in a world of
Knives and guns.

By Adam

I live in a world of animals
Soft and cute as a cloud.
I live in a world of hopes and dreams
Where nothing comes true
Not even hopes.

I live in a world of Games,
Pokemon fighting, gaining points.
I live in a world of Zeldas
And riding zooming around the house.

My worlds colide
And sometimes are peaceful
But overall they are mayhem.

By Shonia

I live in a world of sweets and candy
I live in a world of coke and shandy
I live in a world of pollution and crime
I live in a world of thugs with knives
I live in a world of peace and harmony
I live in a world where people comfort me.

By Connor B

I live in a world of sweet smells of food
And the smell of petrol, even though it’s bad,
And strong smells of sprays
Like the strength of ten men.

I live on a world of war and shooting,
Like Call of Duty,
Frozen games like a stone statue.

I live in two worlds
One with peace
Another with violence and sadness.

By Jamell

I live in two worlds
Of school and home,
Of screaming
And PSP all day.

I live in two worlds.
The mix of them is
Flashing screens
And the sound of bombing in my head.

By Christiano

Worlds of War
I live in a world of sweet smells
And flashing images on a screen
With my eyes nearly ready to pop out.

I live in a world of screaming fans
And fast motion
Like riding a tiger through
The eye of a tornado;
And my foot connecting to a rock
Like Superman kicking the earth
And a cheetah running at the speed of light.

These worlds that I live
Are mostly crazy, but a lot of fun,
They do not connect,
Like a world war:
Germany, Russia and England
Clashing together.

By Tariq

I live in a world of screams
And non-stop working.
I live in a world of no smells
And not too much happiness.

By Joselyn

I live in a world of guns, and knives
That plunge into your body.
I live in a world of guns
As the bullets go as fast as cheetahs.

I live in a world of sweet smells,
Of flowers and sweet cooking
In my house,
Of my mum and dad.

By Torine

I live in a world of cooking,
And the kitchen floor.

I live in a world of fanatic roars
When the leather flies and
Hits the fisherman’s net.

When I get home
I take off my smelly boots,
And smell the fresh smell
Of delicious food.

By Louis

I live in a world of fun and games
And I’m out of control

I live in a world of when I come home
I eat, sleep and watch TV

And then my life starts all over again.

By Alaa

I live in a world of funfairs
And games with all my friends.
I live in a world of love
And peace with my family.
I live in a world of picking berries
For my mum and sister

I live in two worlds of
Games on the computer
And of football games.

I live in a world
Of street and grime music.
I live in a world of Baseball,
That’s what I like, sport.

By Traevon

I live in a world of flashing lights
And video game fights.
I live in a world of fear on the streets,
Rhythms and beat.

I live in a world of stab wounds
And memories lost like a deleted file,
Like haters under the knife,
And the parents of the lost ones say
Why?
Where life’s not a choice.

I live in a world of blistered hands
And sore fingers,
High volume like you’re inside the TV.
It says, Come play with me.

By Reece

I live in a world of people around me,
I live in a world of parents working in places,
I live in a world of my family
With me because I am very safe,
I live in a world with lots of friends,
I live in a world of cash machines,
And of kids playing in the park.

By Gemma

I live in a world where we watch TV
I live in a world of shops and parks
I live in a world of dogs and cats
I live in a world of kids playing in the park.

By Andrew

I live in a world of sleep,
Of walking through an estate,
Of mud, rocks, and shops.

By Adam

I live in a world of comfort,
Of a warm fluffy cloud,
I live in a world of liveliness in the streets,
Of youth, as I follow it, path by path.

I live in a world of parks,
Of trees, grass and ice-cream,
Of fun screams of joy and laughter
As the sun shines in my face
On the swing, swinging
To and fro.

I live in a world of entertainment,
Of Nintendo, DS Lite, and music
As I lie in my bed,
And the comfort of my mum and sister,
My life of happiness.

By Chevonne

I live in a world of joy
That I enjoy so much.
I live in a world of comfort
Like my cushy pillows
The colour of yellow.
I live in a world of homework,
It makes me learn more and more.
I like both worlds,
But school is better
Because you can learn loads.

By Kirsty

I live in a world where I fight for the PS3
So I bought a new Nintendo.
I live in a world of cold and damp.
At home I can get hurt,
But on the street I can get killed.

By Luke

I live in a world of danger, guns and knives
I live in a world of news of murder and robbers
I live in a world of technology games and Xboxes
I live in a world of adventures and different places.

By Kamil

I live in a world of youth and family
Which all get along very happily
The buildings are tall and my family is strong
While in the park we kick a ball along.

The world of youth is a quiet peaceful place,
Everything is clean and there is no disgrace,
The world of family is fun and aromatic,
The way we clean is a good tactic.

It is exciting, and at lunch, boy do they run,
It seems everything is a brew of fun,
And when everything seems to get pitch dark,
We all drop to a deep, deep sleep.

By Ali

I live in a world of pillows,
Of PS3, bed and football,
Of kebabs, friends and brawls.

By Bryan

I live in a world of strangeness,
My family embarrassing me every day.
I live in a world of school,
I get cussed, get called ‘Drool’.

By Billy

I live in a world of cash,
Which I spend with my family,
I live in a world of sport,
Which is active.
I live in a world of kids,
Playing in the park.
I live in a world of cars,
Driving people around.

By Mohammed

I live in a world with my family
And Love.
My family is my soul,
I’m always excited to have fun with them.
I wonder what I would do without them
And my friends.
It is all I want for my life, till I die.
There shall my family and friends be forever
No matter what.

I love shopping, me, I like spending.
I would love to own a shop.
I love shopping, me, I like spending.

All I need are friends,
All I need is my family.
I need them to have fun with.
They spend time with me
As if I am someone special.
That’s all I need for my life till I die.
They take me shopping,
They like to spend on me,
They are like the best parents I have ever had.

By Habiba

I live in a world of family
I love my mum and dad
I never want them sad
Because sometimes they feel bad
And that’s the worst thing I ever had

I live in a world of friends
In my school it’s so cool
I have five friends that we say never ends
They are the best friends forever more
They are me best friends I am sure
By the way that’s not against the law.

By Attiya

I live in a world of family
And a world of school
We all get along

By All-awkat

I live in a world of family
I live in a world of love
I live in a world of happiness
Which resembles the sign of the dove

I live in a world of streets
I live in a world of bravery
I live in a world where
Anything can happen to me.

By Michelangelo

I live in a world of special faith
I live in a world of education.

By Bqayon

I live in a world of school
Where I have lots of friends
The one I love the most is Noor
And Arjeta.
I love them so much, as friends,
And I would hate to lose them.

By Jessica

I live in a world of family,
With my siblings, my parents,
Whom I love.
I live in a world of family,
Where I always try to have fun.
I live in a world of family
That I know loves me very much
And I love them too.

I live in a world of the street
Where I play out with my friends.
All the cars running their petrol,
People dealing drugs,
Brick dust and rat poison.

So my two worlds are family and street.
With my family I feel safe,
But on the street anything can happen.

By Noor

I live in a world of family
Which I play and have fun in,
I love them so much.

I live in a world of the street
Where I mess about and joke around.

I live in a world of friends,
They are all kind, except for one
Who is wannin it!

I live in two worlds, of family and friends.
They are all the people I like,
But my family I love.
My world is very friendly.

By Arjeta

I live in a world of the street
I live in a world of fried meat
I live in a world of football
I live in a world of acting cool

I live in a world of my family
I live in a world of love
I live in a world of trust
I live in a world of a child.

The soft colour of my coat
The bashful monkey in the jungle
I am so glad that you are my friend

I’m too big to sit on a little chair,
Hey Mr!
I’m too big to mess around,
Hey you!
I’m too big to play in the mud!

By Abdulahi

Can I tell you something I am too young to kiss a girl
I am too big to hurt someone
I am too big to jump down the window
I am too big to lick the mirror and lick the metal
I am too big to go in the tiny swimming pool
I am too big to sleep at half past six
I am too big to break everything
I am too big to kiss the window
I am too big to throw my toys

By Magan

I’m too big for my buggy yeah
But my mum won’t let me kiss a bear
My mum said no she won’t let me be in the row.
You know yeah… I’m too big to eat goo
You know yeah… I’m too big to play with trolls

Poems by Hilbrook Primary School

In September 2006 the poet David Mason visited Hilbrook Primary School, Wandsworth. He performed his poetry and ran workshops in a number of classes.

Below is some of the work from three classes. This first is the work from class 5S, based on a template of one of David’s own poems, My Creation. The next is class 4A writing, in pairs, a poem called Gregory Cool. Finally class 3HB worked on a poem, The Sun.

My Creation
On the first day God made kids
On the second day God made swimming pools
Fore the kids to play with
On the third day God made all sorts of animals
And the fourth, computers and TVs.
God saw all this was good
And he wanted the kids to have more fun and
So he invented theme parks on the fifth day.
On the sixth day he made water beds
So the kids could rest with him on the seventh day.
On that day God was resting
But he set his alarm clock incorrrectly.
On waking God became restless
It was then he made his first and only mistake, SCHOOLS!!

The following poems are from Class 4A at Hillbrook Primary. Many of the children worked in pairs. The poem’s title was Gregory Cool.

Gregory Cool
I can smell the cold salty water.
The glowing, shiny and sparkly candle
Flies floating in the warm air.
I can see the golden, pretty flowers,
Waving about in the cool breeze.
I can see the excited animals outside
Prancing and dancing.

By Lauren and Nimra

Gregory Cool
The silvery, icey moon glittering in the night,
Out in the dark there are fiery golden
Candle flies gliding happily about,
Beauitful shining, twinkling stars,
People are singing and dancing happily
They are twirling and spinning
Outside everything is delightfully calm
And relaxed.

By Vanthana and Haniyah

Gregory Cool
The source of light glows in the night.
It sparkles at midnight
Candle flies are gliding in the dark sky.
Stars are golden and they shine at night.
Music is playing. People are singing
And twirling round and round.
Dogs are barking loudly.
Donkeys are braying, trees are rustling.

By Bethany

Gregory Cool
The source of light glows in the night.
It sparkles at midnight.
Candleflies are gliding in the sky.
The stars are shining in the sky.
The people are singing and dancing.
The dogs are barking and the
Donkeys are braying.

By Shantel

Gregory Cool
The dusk is falling in the blue deep sky.
The golden gigantic sun
Switches with the silvery moon.
Then its silent, absolutely quiet.
Untouchable resting under the beautiful
Silvery moon.

By Fiona and Hillary

Gregory Cool
Candle flies glowing in the glittering night,
And people twirling in the warm night.
Night has fallen and the sparkling icy
Moon is floating in the beautiful sky.
Lights are twinkling bright in houses.
I lie in the dark, warm and twinkling night,
Ending the day with a shining silvery moon.

By Sheza and Ruqayyah

Gregory Cool
The warm twinkling starrry night
The moon as silver as can be
Golden, fiery candle flies happily darting
Round the warm sky
The smell of fried fish
Floating through the air.
People dancing, twirling, spinning
Round and round and round.

By Uzma

Gregory Cool
The icy moon is bright in the dark.
The glowing flies are twinkling.
The loud music playing
The beautiful silvery moon rises
The smell of fried fish
Floating in the air.

By Akeem and Riaz

Gregory Cool
It is dark with twinkling stars in the sky.
The full gleamimg [moon] is shining brightly in the sky.
People are shouting out loudly to each other.
Smell the sizzling fried fish floating in the air.
They can see the glittering candle flies buzzing round.

By Adam and Rebekah

Gregory Cool
The sky is dark
The moon is silver and white
The source of light at night still and calm.
Golden candle flies are zig zagging
through the air in the darkness
Stars are twinkling and shimmering
In the dark warm night
People are twisting and turning
To the sound of music
Delicious smell of fried fish
Floating through the warm air.

By Sahiba and Asmaa

Lying under the twinkling stars
The gigantic icy silvery source of light at night
Floating still.
Happy lying comfortable under the light.

By Nasir and Sulaiman

Glittering night sky
Icy silvery source of light
Makes a brilliant world of night
Excited candle flies
Glittering in the delighted warm air.

By Tony and Troy

Gregory Cool
The silvery, twinkling sky.
Sizzling, twizzling candle flies,
Zig zagging round and round.
Hear animals howling,
Braying and barking.
The moon turns your hearts to ice,
And you feel a shiver and a quiver.
People are singing, dancing,
Twirling and whirling.
The smell of fish comes drifting
Into your nose.

Finally Class 3HB at Hillbrook Primary wrote poems about the sun, working with images and ’strong’ words. Here are a few of them.

The Sun
The sun feels like fiery hot chillies.
The sun looks like a juicy lemon
And a juicy orange.
The sun is round like a pizza.
It is like a hot fire.

By Aqsa

The Sun
The sun makes me feel relaxed.
The sun feels like burnng hot steaming
The sun feels like a juicy orange,
Salted crisps, spicy hot pizza.
It is like hot fire.
The sun feels fiery
The sun feels shiny
The sun feels bright
The sun is brilliant.

By Noorshad

The Sun
Burning hot, steaming,
Salted crisps, thirst
Juicy orange, relaxing
Icecream bowl [boat] of fire
Spicey hot pizza, hot chillies
Sweating, bothered,
Fiery lava, global.

By Daria

The Sun
Cool drink, relaxing on the beach
Swimming in hot water,
Chilli hot.

By Ervine

The Sun
It tastes hot and tasty
Makes you feel relaxed
Relaxing on a beach
Swimming in hot water
Smells like smoke
Makes you feel thirsty
Tastes like salty crisps
Bad for your teeth
Like lava on a ball
Sun tastes like chillies
Cold drink
