kate-corkery-thumbnail.jpgKate Corkery has worked as a storyteller since 1988, traveling widely to theatres, libraries and schools, working with children of all ages and abilities. Her background as a qualified language teacher (English, French and Spanish) and her professional experience as an actress and singer have enhanced her storytelling skills (not to mention her place of birth - a stone’s throw from the Blarney Stone in County Cork, Ireland!)Kate has a wealth of Irish myths, legends and folktales to share and can perform a dedicated programme based around this called ‘Fado, Fado, Stories from Ireland’. She also performs a variety of fascinating stories, songs and games from around the world - as she calls it ‘Tales from Here, There and Elsewhere’. All performances are geared to specific age ranges, and involve lots of audience participation, linking in with the ‘speaking and listening’ agenda of the National Curriculum. As well as her performance experience, Kate has also developed a wealth of resource material:

Co-wrote Shukala Shake, a CD of songs and rhymes for children
Co-produced Celtic and Caribbean Fun Songs, as half of the dynamic duo Spud And Yam.
Launched On Our Way, an early years resource pack sponsored by Sure Start
Featured on the Irish government’s Millenium Interactive CD Everlasting Voices
Storyteller in residence at the Hammersmith Irisih Centre, where she hosts a “Yarn Spinning” clubs for adults called Around The Fire
Run Getting On, a 3 year racial harmony project, supported by The Merton Children’s Fund

A hectic schedule, but as Kate says, she would not do anything else:
“There’s a story in everything - and storytelling is just a joy”
