Jeanette Angela Barrett is a performer, writer and storyteller who has an infectious enthusiasm for the creative arts and is extremely passionate about exposing the uninitiated to the joys of her unique style of performance.She obtained a Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree in Drama and English at Brunel University and has been actively involved in the creative arts field for a number of years.
As a performer Jeanette has a varied body of work and has been particularly involved in taking Theatre projects into schools and the local community. Whether devising scripts or facilitating workshop sessions, she is full of infectious fun and her varied career has seen her work with companies such as Birmingham based Language Alive or Ladder to the Moon in South London.
Her Storytelling sessions draw from her African and Caribbean Heritage and its rich oral/musical tradition and as a vocalist Jeanette will often punctuate her sessions with singing to the delight of her audiences.
Happy to work alone or in collaboration Jeanette also devises and facilitates drama/poetry workshops for both adults and children (of all ages and abilities) and has worked not only in the UK but also overseas in both Africa and the Caribbean where she was also Co-Founder/Co-Director of a Performing Arts school on the island of Grenada which taught drama, singing and dance classes.
Her workshops for children have taken her to numerous after-school projects, school holiday programmes and schools, whereas her work with adults has included using drama techniques to develop public speaking skills.
Some of the schools that Jeanette has worked in include Gorringe Park Primary School in Mitcham, Rushey Green Primary School in Catford and St Martin-in-the-Fields CE High School for Girls in Tulse Hill.
Always embracing a new challenge and as an avid writer of both prose and poetry, Jeanette is currently working on a new play script for children.
