Rosemary Harris is a writer, poet and performer, based in the UK since 1997. Her most recent work includes as a commissioned poet for the CBeebies 2009 series, “Poetry Pie”.Trained at Australia’s National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA), ex-Sydney Theatre Company member Rosemary has appeared on stages from the Sydney Opera House, to New York and Edinburgh. Her UK appearances as a writer include BBC Radio 3, touring nationally for Apples & Snakes, Soho Writers’ Festival, Glastonbury KidzField, and Bristol Poetry Festival. Workshops Working in mainstream and SEN schools for Tate Britain, Creative Partnerships, the Poetry Society, Apples & Snakes and others, Rosemary’s educational approach focuses on enjoyment, excellence and empowerment. Her workshops are a multi-form celebration of creativity and play. With experience of all school year groups, including SEN, Rosemary can deliver school assemblies on poetry and performance, individual class workshops on creative writing, drama, and speaking and listening skills, or small groupwork, depending on the requirements of the school. Her creative work has been used in delivering other curriculum areas including Science, History, and Art, and she particularly enjoys working with KS1. Rosemary uses drama games and performance/writing activities to boost literacy and oracy skills. She works from a principle of inclusion, built from years of experience across a wide range of learning environments, including classroom and INSET delivery, and exploring cross-curricular approaches. In 2006 she won Spread The Word/ The Literary Consultancy’s “Novel Pitch”, an X-Factor style competition for first time novelists, and in 2007 was a Writers’ Inc Writers of the Year winner for her poetry sequence, Residential Unit. Books Rosemary has been published in the anthologies “Mini Sagas”, “This Poem Is Sponsored By…” and “Dropped Notes.” Her work has also appeared in Poetry London, Chroma, Magma, and Staple magazine.
