Heather is an award-winning author for children 7-11 years old. Heather’s books feature ordinary children to whom extraordinary things happen. In The Fish in Room 11 Toby finds a mermaid with stringy hair living beneath the pier. In The Girl with the Broken Wing an angel with dirty feet crash-lands on James and Amanda’s rooftop. In The Boy in the Biscuit Tin, three children find a magic set which does real magic. Friendship and freedom are the themes explored.
Workshops
Heather gives entertaining and educational events at schools, libraries, and festivals. She hopes to enthuse children about books and reading in general, and is happy speaking to children in Years 3-6. She shows pictures, reveals how she gets her ideas, and talks about the writing and publishing process. Powerpoint™ slides are shown if facilities allow, and talks last about 45 minutes including question-and-answer time. An author visit is always more rewarding when the children have prepared some questions they may want to ask – anything goes!
Background information about the author can be found on the ‘Heather Dyer’ page of the Chicken House website at www.doublecluck.com. If children bring copies of her books to school, Heather will be happy to sign them. Copies can be supplied on the day of the visit, if requested.
