I am a children’s author and poet who writes mainly non-fiction books for the 7-14 age group as well as comic poetry. My best-known book is ‘How to Spot a Hadrosaur in a Bus Queue’, a miscellany of facts, lists, information, figures and humour. This book was selected by the School Library Association’s ‘Boys into Books’ scheme as one of the best books to get boys reading, although it is enjoyed by girls as well!

I also write information books and have just completed two books about Animation and Graphic Novels.

I have had poems published in 13 collections of children’s poetry and my own book ‘Interactive Poetry’ came out in 2001. This contains action and performance poetry written especially for children aged 4-11 to join in with.

I also write many other types of material including content for web games, comedy sketches and jokes for greetings cards as well as stories for school assembly books.

I am a former primary school teacher living in sunny North Yorkshire and have been a full time writer since 2000. In the past 8 years I have visited many schools to perform, carry out workshops and answer questions.

SCHOOL VISITS

I offer a variety of school visits to fit in with schools’ needs. I work with ages 4-14 with whole classes or smaller groups. I also run assemblies and can often fit in with a current theme. The two most popular visits I’ve run in the past are:

1) Interactive Poetry Day – working with one class at a time. This starts with a performance, then moves onto children performing interactive poems (best done in the hall) – writing workshops can be added too. This is suitable for 4-11s or KS3 by arrangement. Up to four classes a day (two if writing workshops are included).

2) Miscellany workshop – based on ‘How to Spot a Hadrosaur in a Bus Queue’ – begins with readings and then involves children making their own fun lists of facts, building towards creating a class ‘miscellany’. Up to four classes a day.

In all cases children will have a chance to ask questions.

FEEDBACK

‘Andy Seed was exceptionally well received by the children. He is able to use all the expertise he developed a teacher to enthuse and delight the children.

I cannot recommend him highly enough.’
