How to book a writer for your school
- Decide on the dates when you would like to have a writer in your school. Bear in mind that some writers are booked up between six-months to a year in advance, so it is always good to be as flexible as possible.
- If you would like to tie the writer visit to a particular event, such as National Book Day, Black History Month or National Poetry Day, think about the sort of visit you would like, how you will timetable it and which year groups will be involved.
- You may want to look at our writer profile pages and think about who you would like to invite, although we are only featuring a selection of our writers at present.
- Think about your budget. You can expect to pay between £350 and £450 for a full day visit, although this can vary due to travel costs.
- To help us get back to you promptly and accurately please include this information in your email…
- Your name
- The name of your school and your school’s address including postcode
- Borough, county or Local Authority
- Telephone
- The audience for your writer visit (Reception, KS1, KS2, Secondary, etc.)
- Any theme or focus
- Any dates you have in mind
- Any additional information
- We will send you some writer profiles to look through. Let us know who you would like to book and we will check availability. We will try to offer you a choice of writers who are reasonably local to you to keep travel costs down unless you specifically request a particular writer.
- We will confirm that the writer is available on the day(s) that you’d like and send them a letter with details of how to contact you. We will invoice you at the same time.
- We ask the writer to contact you at least two weeks in advance of the visit to discuss details of the day. Please contact us if you need any more help or advice.
